Commonwealth Fusion Systems
IGNITING THE FUTURE OF FUSION
MIT Scientists wanted to turn nuclear fusion from lab-based theory to a venture-backed business reality to produce limitless clean energy for the world.
SidePorch supported the founding team at Commonwealth Fusion Systems to launch a company out of a university lab.
Our team worked on CFS’ foundational ethos, business plan, and investment strategy. SidePorch helped to plan and execute on operational requirements, including: build organizational and employee KPIs, recruit and hire a range of key leaders, organize and join on global efforts to secure funding and expand networks.
The company expanded quickly over the last 5 years, building a world-class, diverse team, delivering on scientific and engineering achievements, and completing successful financing rounds, including a $1.8B Series B round in mid-2022.

Clean Industrial Hubs
ENABLING HUBS TO HUB
Responding to the Department of Energy’s Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, SidePorch helped build various industrial hubs focused on energy transitions and decarbonization.
SidePorch is working alongside Rocky Mountain Institute and Mission Possible Partnerships to build a Clean Industrial Hub in Los Angeles and Houston. SidePorch also supported the financial and operational modeling alongside the development of community benefit plans for the Southwest Clean Hydrogen Innovation Network and the Southwest Regional Direct Air Capture Hub.
In all of these initiatives, SidePorch helped build the ecosystems for industrial organizations to understand the opportunities for collaboration, off-take, and economies-of-scale.
SidePorch also provided the initial frameworks and strategies for how financial institutions can better stack and accelerate funding for key projects.
Furthermore, SidePorch continued to work to ensure that the Community Benefit Plans increased the optimization of the operational plans of these developing ecosystems, and not auxiliary checklists.
